Our 3 Go-To’s For Any Spring Event

April 14, 2016 by Karissa Marbury Leave a Comment

662060

Weddings, birthdays, prom, Gala’s…you name it! Spring is sure upon us, so what better time to get your face into tip-top shape? Not only do we have multiple options for facials like micros, oxygen, rejuvenating, acne, etc., we also have different series of lasers & fillers that help with brown spots, acne scars, skin aging, tightening & getting rid of wrinkles.

We want to share our 3 go-to’s for any spring event! From a simple porch party to a gorgeous Gala, we make sure we’re always ready–here’s how:

Getting Back To The Basics

We’ve all been there…winter stinks and so does our skincare routine. Getting back on the right track with your skincare routine & maintenance is a must for Spring & Summer! We all know that being outside in the natural sun makes even the tiniest of blackheads known. Making sure you’re using the right products & staying on the right routine is crucial. This includes having a good quality sunscreen (we suggest sunscreen in your moisturizer & makeup just in case). If you don’t have a skincare routine, then we’ll get you taken care of just in time for your event. We have different lines & products depending on your skin type and what your looking to achieve over time with your skin. Once you’ve gotten back to the basics, your skin is ready for the fun stuff!

Exfoliate & Hydrate

For best results along with your skincare routine, we always suggest getting a Chemical Peel and/or an Oxygen Facial before a specific event. If you can do both, even better (this takes a little more time & prep). If you have a couple weeks before your party or event, we would first recommend a certain Peel (catered specifically to your skin type). Since a Peel tends to make most people’s skin flake off, we try to do this 10-14 days out. Once the skin has finished turning, usually 4-6 days after peel, we would go on to our customer favorite–the Intraceutical’s Oxygen Facial. Our oxygen machine is perfect for hydrating the skin, while adding volume to the skin in order to achieve that plump, dewy look.

*This has been a red carpet go-to lately for stars like Jessica Biel, Madonna, Kim K, Channing Tatum, etc…

Tone & Tighten

Last, but not least, we want get rid of those stubborn wrinkles! Toned & tight skin is always in, so we offer multiple services to meet the needs and goals of each of our clients. Since everyone’s skin & skin goals are different, we like to go over the various options and prices beforehand. At this point, we go with 1 of these 3 services:

  1. Botox- temporarily improves the appearance of fine lines in the forehead, between eyebrows, & around the eyes.
  2. Filler- restores youthfulness to the skin. Adding volume intra-dermally provides immediate, long-lasting correction for fine lines, wrinkles & loss of elasticity. These are used around the nose, mouth, lip & cheek areas.
  3. Laser Treatment- specific laser treatments allows us to precisely treat age & sun spots, small facial veins, acne, & many other skin conditions.

3 Tips To Glowing Skin All Winter

January 15, 2016 by Karissa Marbury Leave a Comment

25dc4e1e-f8c5-44bb-ba61-6ea573b265a4

Winter comes with shorter days, colder weather and dry, itchy upset skin…YUCK! We want to share with you some of our go-to tips for achieving glowing skin all winter long. Better yet, lets get you that “dewy” look that everyone’s been talking about!

Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water helps maintain your skin and body’s overall optimum health. We suggest drinking a cup of warm/hot water in the mornings with lemon. Lemons are rick in Vitamin C, which enhances your beauty, by rejuvenating skin from within bringing a glow to your face. Vitamin C also helps the skin and digestive system by flushing out toxins.

Diet & Exercise

We know, we know– it’s winter and it’s cold and that makes us want to eat more and exercise less. Many people don’t realize that what you eat and put into your body plays a huge role on how your skin looks and how your body feels. Staying healthy by eating foods rich in good fats and Omega 3’s are highly suggested for maintaining that glowing skin look literally from the inside, out. Exercise goes along with eating the right kinds of foods. When you exercise, your body produces endorphins, which make you look and feel better. Exercise alone, also makes you look better by promoting healthy circulation within the body.

Don’t Over Exfoliate

Exfoliated your skin is good, but in the winter months, we suggest you tone it down a notch. Gently exfoliate every 1-2 weeks, while staying on your regular skin care regimen. Getting oxygen facials are also great for plumping up the skin to make it hydrated and glow!

Oxygen Facials – What’s all The Hype About?

November 19, 2015 by Karissa Marbury Leave a Comment

Screen Shot 2015-11-19 at 2.49.06 PMWe’re sure you’ve been hearing about all your favorite celebs getting oxygen facials lately. From Kim Kardashian to Jessica Biel to Channing & Jenna Tatum, they’re swearing by their oxygen facials from Intraceuticals. They love them because these facials immediately make your skin glow and look more plumped-up. We want to share why we offer the Oxygen facials by Intraceuticals and why it’s one of our favorite go-to’s!

The facial is done by using oxygen pressure to deliver a special serum with low molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to the skin. Different levels of hyaluronic acid, botanical extracts, antioxidants, peptides/vitamins are done depending on how much we think that your skin type needs at that particular time. There are four treatment options we can then choose from:

Screen Shot 2015-11-19 at 2.53.15 PM

  1. Opulence helps uneven skin tone look brighter and more luminous.
  2. Rejuvenate diminishes appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while enhancing hydration to the overall skin.
  3. Atoxelene is a Botox alternative in facial form that helps to soften and firm expression lines, define the eyes and plump the lips.
  4. Clarity calms stubborn acne while restoring moisture balance and defending against future breakouts.

For after your facial, we offer Intraceutical products that we can personally go over with you for best results.

3 Tips to Keep Your Skin Healthy During the Holidays

November 13, 2015 by Karissa Marbury Leave a Comment

Screen Shot 2015-11-13 at 2.53.23 PMDiets, exercise, staying healthy and pretty any type of routine all go out the window around the Holidays. While it may not seem to bother us as we’re stuffing our faces (literally) with all the home cooked meals, desserts and cocktails, and traveling to visit family, it takes a toll on our skin in ways we don’t even realize. We want to give you 3 tips to keep your skin healthy during the Holidays.

Maintain Your Skincare Routine

Maintaining your skincare routine is so important especially if you’re traveling. At the time, just using whatever soap the Hotel offers seems to be the way to go because it’s simple, quick & technically it’s vacation! This is a big no-no! Wherever you’re traveling to this Holiday season, being aware of the different climate can be important so that your skin doesn’t freak out all of a sudden. Different climates can make our skin more dry, oily or even in panic mode if there is stress from traveling involved. Maintaining your routine will keep your skin calm and on track so that whatever may come up will be easier to deal with. Having a good moisturizer (with SPF), Vitamin C, & face mask handy while traveling is always a plus!

Be Aware of What You’re Consuming

It would be absolutely miserable to try and stick to your diet during the Holidays! And then there’s always the one family member there to make sure you get a piece of everything…we understand! If we could tell you to be aware of just one thing, it would be your sugar intake. Minimizing the consumption of sugar over anything else is a must, not only for the skin, but for bloating, fatigue & stress as well. Too much sugar can cause your skin to look puffy and also make you dehydrated. When the skin is dehydrated, it gets dry and tends to freak out on us. So, eat up on Thanksgiving and Christmas; just be aware of what is going into your body and drink lots of water.

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead is easier said than done. When thinking about the Holidays, we think of what all has to get done instead of what all needs to be maintained on a personal, skincare level. Making sure you’re prepared for the Holidays–have all of your products needed for travel and for when stores will be closed, so that you don’t have to “make do” when you run out of your routine products.

Let us help make traveling easier on you this Holiday season–Visit us to see what travel kits we offer in our favorite products! Click here to see our services.

4 Reasons Why We Love Vitamin C

October 23, 2015 by Karissa Marbury Leave a Comment

There are so many different forms and benefits of vitamin C. Not only is it good for our immune system; it’s awesome for the skin! We’re going to tell you the top 4 reasons we always recommend our GloTherapeutic Vitamin C Serum to our clients.

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 12.34.11 PMProvides protection against damage induced by UV radiation.

A lot of our medspa services aide in the reversing of damaged skin due to too much sun exposure. Not protecting the skin from UV radiation may not show in the youthful years; but with age, comes years of sun damage and a long process of reversing it. This means a lot of time with us…and did we mention that it can get VERY expensive? Keep your beautiful skin covered from the sun as much as you can.

Improves skin elasticity and decreases wrinkles by stimulating collagen synthesis.

Not only is Vitamin C protective; it works to reverse the looks of wrinkles. No way a small bottle of serum does that!

Boosts the immune system and accelerates the healing of wounds.

The production of new cells help the healing process of stubborn wounds, such as scars and scabs caused by previous or current acne.

Produces collagen with 3 active ingredients–Ascorbic Acid, Zinc Sulfate and L-tyrosine.

With all three ingredients acting and working toward the productions of new collagen, there’s no reason not to have this product!

10 Tips Under 10 Minutes to Keep Your Skin Clear and Healthy

October 1, 2015 by Karissa Marbury 2 Comments

10 Tips Blog ImageWe all know the saying, “Less is more”. Well, keeping your skin healthy on a day-to-day basis will actually save you LESS hassle in the long run. Who doesn’t have 5-10 minutes during the day to prevent hours of dreaded treatments later on? Here are 10 tips that will take you maybe 10 minutes to do in order to keep your skin clear and healthy:

1. Wear Sunscreen

Whether it’s in your makeup or you have to apply it; always, always wear sunscreen! We’re all aware of how the sun (and/or tanning bed) make us look and feel–“When I tan, my acne goes away because it dries up my skin”, “When I’m tan, I feel skinnier”, “Everything looks better when you’re tan”. No one can argue with any of those statements and its all true….for the time being. In the long run, (we promise) you will look and feel worse about your skin. Age spots, dark & light spots, sun damage, scarring, melanoma and yes, even acne all come from too much UV ray exposure. We aren’t telling you to hide in a cave and never go outside–we’re simply saying that less is more. Have fun in the sun, just wear sunscreen and be aware of the long term affects that the sun has on your skin.

2. Always Wash Your Face

There skincare products out there better than others (which varies from person to person), but no matter what you’re washing your face with, just do it. It’s as simple as that! There is makeup, like our Glo Minerals line, that are actually skin perfecting, so you can get by with the occasional, “I fell asleep in my makeup” oops. Washing your face should still be a must no matter what you have on your skin throughout the day. Your pores get clogged with dirt, oil, dust & makeup, so washing your face is always necessary even if you’re just wearing a tinted moisturizer during the day. And what’s better than going to sleep at night with a fresh, clean face?

3. Keep Your Pillow Case Clean

If you’ve never thought about this before, then think; how much dirt, oil, makeup, hair product & grime do you think are on your pillow case at this very moment?

According to Dr. David E. Bank, director and founder of The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, “Acne Mechanica is any type of acne that is the result of material or objects touching your face. When your pillowcase is not laundered or changed regularly, a build up of dirt and oil from the environment as well as your skin and hair touching the pillow is transferred back to your skin. This can clog pores and cause blemishes.”

We suggest washing or changing out your pillow case every 2-3 days. OR lay a clean towel down at night to block the dirt from getting to your pretty skin.

4. Keep Your Hair Out of Your Face

Any way to keep oil from getting into the pores on your face is a must! The longer and more hair you have, the more it’s going to fall in your face, (unless, of course, you wear it pulled back every day). So, for those of us who like to wear our hair long and lusciously around our face, at least keep it from touching your actual skin as much as possible so oil production doesn’t occur throughout the day.

5. Cut Back on Your Moisturizer

Many of us don’t realize that our skin produces natural oils in order to keep our skin moisturized. (Like a snake), we need to produce new skin cells and get rid of the old, dead skin.

6. Change Out Your Makeup Brushes

Even if your skin is “clean,” your makeup brushes are still collecting oil, dust, dead skin, and fallout from greasy hair products you spray around your mirror. The build up of all of this can cause your pores to clog, resulting in acne. We suggest cleaning your brushes with an (oil free) makeup remover wipe after every use. Then, for a further clean, soak brushes with anti-bacterial soap and let air dry on a clean towel–we suggest doing this every 1-2 weeks.

7. Buy Good Skincare Products & Makeup

Just like shopping for clothes, sometimes all we need is a nice expensive pair of ____ that will last forever! Our skin also has needs. Buying good smelling face wash and cheap makeup from Walgreens sometimes just doesn’t cut it. We aren’t saying to never buy products from there; we’re simply saying that you need to know what your skin likes and doesn’t like. No convenient store is going to have pure makeup that is skin perfecting, so its going to clog your pores.

“When I received my first peel from the natural look, Christine automatically knew that my skin was oily and hormonal without even having to dissect and touch my skin. At that point, I entrusted my skin into her hands. She told me the products and makeup she herself would use in order to get my skin looking great again (with no pressure what-so-ever).”

8. Drink LOTS of Water

Water is your skin’s best friend…now repeat that ten times!  The skin is the last organ to receive the nutrients we consume, which means it’s the last to get the water you sip. When skin is dehydrated, it creates more oil to make up for the missing water. This can cause breakouts, irritation and dry patches. Skin can even feel oily and dry at the same time. (source)

9. Be Aware of What You’re Body Is Consuming

As mentioned above, the skin is the last organ to receive the nutrients we consume.  The bottom line is that whatever’s going on inside your gut will eventually show in your skin.”

The 3 things we suggest you watch are:

  1. Alcohol intake- dehydrates the skin
  2. Sugar intake- gets into your bloodstream, making your insulin levels spike, which can aggravate acne, wrinkles and rashes
  3. Dairy intake- the hormone levels in milk may play a role in excess sebum production, which promotes acne. (try goat milk, unsweetened almond milk, or goat cheese instead)

10. Don’t Stress

Not stressing out is easier said than done. Stress causes more damage to our bodies than we think. When you’re tense, your body releases stress hormones including cortisol, which may increase the skin’s oil production, making you prone to pimples. Some things we suggest to avoid stress:

  1. Exercise- exercising releases endorphins that boost your mood and make you feel good, while also serving as a valuable distraction to your daily worries.
  2. Healthier Eating- Well-nourished bodies are better prepared to cope with stress.
  3. Get Enough Sleep- Adequate sleep fuels your mind, as well as your body. Feeling tired will increase your stress because it may cause you to think irrationally.

Chemical Peels: Not just for the Face

August 24, 2015 by Christine Haag 1 Comment

CHEMICALPEELS

A chemical peel is one of the many tools you can use to have healthier skin. When you think of a chemical peel, you may immediately think of the common facial skin procedure. However, there are other skin areas that can benefit from a chemical peel.

Chemical peels for irregular skin discoloration

The back of your arms and hands get the most sun exposure out of any other part of the body. Because of this, these areas show early signs of aging such as irregular skin discoloration. The chest is another area of the body that gets a great deal of sun exposure and can show pigmentation irregularities.

Help decrease the chances of developing skin cancers

While sun damage to facial skin often results in wrinkles, damage to these other “thicker skin” areas may produce additional results. This is because the blood supply to the skin in these two areas is different from the blood supply to the facial skin. Despite the differences in blood supply, the chest and arms respond effectively to chemical peels. The results of this skin procedure can be noticed through younger, smoother looking skin with an even tone. Skin blemishes such as acne scars become less noticeable as the procedure removes dead skin cells through exfoliation revealing a newer, healthier skin layer. Chemical peels also help decrease the chances of developing precancerous actinic keratosis and actual skin cancers.

Understanding how your skin shows signs of environmental damage is essential for knowing how to treat the symptoms. Consulting a skin care professional about any irregularities can help you establish and maintain an effective skin care routine. By regularly addressing signs of aging, you can enjoy healthy, beautiful skin for years to come.
